New Zealand Investor Visa
Why Invest in New Zealand?
New Zealand’s quality of life, political stability and open business environment make it an attractive destination for families who want long-term certainty, lifestyle choice and access to a well-regulated investment market.
The Active Investor Plus Visa is New Zealand’s primary investor resident visa. It allows eligible applicants to live, work and study in New Zealand indefinitely, provided the visa requirements are met, including the minimum investment, acceptable investments, transfer of funds to New Zealand and time-in-country conditions.
Tailored Solutions
We work with investors considering the Active Investor Plus Visa, including those targeting the Balanced category, the Growth category, or a blend of acceptable investments that fits their objectives and visa requirements.
- We work with you from initial planning through to implementation, ongoing portfolio management and reporting.
- We partner with your immigration adviser to help ensure investment requirements are understood, documented, tracked and met throughout the visa period.
- We do not operate our own funds or products, which means our advice is independent and focused on building an investment solution that is appropriate for you.
Our aim is to give you financial peace of mind, so you can focus on settling into New Zealand and enjoying the lifestyle, community and opportunities that brought you here.
Balanced Category
The Balanced category requires a minimum investment of NZD 10 million for at least five years. It offers access to a broader range of acceptable investments, including managed funds, listed equities, bonds, direct investments in New Zealand businesses, property developments and philanthropy. The principal applicant must generally spend at least 105 days in New Zealand over the investment period, although this number of days may reduce where a larger amount is invested into Growth category-style assets.
Growth Category
The Growth category requires a minimum investment of NZD 5 million for at least three years. It is focused on higher risk investments in New Zealand businesses, including approved managed funds and direct investments. Investors in the Growth category are required to spend a minimum of 21 days in New Zealand over the three-year investment period.
Navigating Complexity
Process for New Zealand Residency By Investment
If your visa application is approved in principle, you will generally have 6 months to transfer and invest your funds in New Zealand. In some cases, an extension may be available if more time is required to complete the investment process.
Once your funds are invested, the focus shifts to maintaining acceptable investments, meeting reporting obligations and satisfying the time-in-country requirement for your visa category. Investors may be eligible to apply for permanent residence after three years under the Growth category or five years under the Balanced category, provided all requirements have been met.
Your partner and dependent children aged 24 and younger may be included in the application, subject to Immigration New Zealand requirements. Family members included in the resident visa must travel to New Zealand within 12 months of the visa being granted.
Over the long term, successful applicants may also be able to apply for New Zealand citizenship after meeting the relevant residence and physical presence requirements.
