International Investors and Expats

Cambridge Partners is New Zealand’s leading independent wealth management firm with respect to helping you meet all your international financial planning requirements.

This includes international investors moving to New Zealand for the first time, New Zealanders returning to New Zealand after living and working abroad, or those with a legacy of international investments. We take a holistic and long-term approach to help ensure all the cross-border complexities and obligations are achieved.

What are the issues?

Whether you are moving to New Zealand for the first time or have lived in New Zealand for several years but retained overseas investments, there are a wide range of financial and tax implications that need to be considered.

In a world where information sharing between tax regimes is increasing, it is more important than ever to ensure that your financial assets are structured in a way to maximise your long-term outcomes.

At Cambridge Partners we have a depth of experience in advising clients from the US, UK, Australia and many other jurisdictions, ensuring appropriate tax and legal advice is sought where necessary. Our goal is to make your financial transition to New Zealand as smooth as possible and to provide you with the clarity and confidence around your financial future.

US Citizens

The US is almost unique in that its citizens or permanent residents (green card holders) remain US taxpayers irrespective of whether they reside in the US or not.

We have significant experience in this area – for more information go to our US Citizen in New Zealand page, or download our info pack below.

Investor Visas

New Zealand is a popular destination for migrants, offering an enviable lifestyle, culture and quality of life. New Zealand is considered to have one of the lowest levels of corruption in the world and is consistently ranked in the top 10 in terms of protecting investors, starting a business, and ease of doing business. New Zealand offers a great work-life balance, with world-class education and healthcare systems.

The Investor 1 and Investor 2 Resident Visa programmes are for high net worth individuals/families and those with sufficient business experience who want to gain residency in New Zealand.

Residency can be obtained through investing at least $NZ10 million for an Investor 1 Resident Visa or at least $NZ3 million for an Investor 2 Resident Visa in acceptable investments.

At Cambridge Partners we work with your immigration consultant to ensure the investment strategy is compliant with the Investor Visa rules and reflects your situation. However, more importantly, we also ensure that a holistic planning exercise is undertaken to simplify and bring peace of mind to your financial life.

So you can relax and enjoy all the great things that attracted you to NZ in the first place.

UK Pensions

For those who have lived and worked in the UK, the question on whether you should move your Defined Contribution or Defined Benefit pension plan is often front of mind. There are several advantages and risks involved in any transfer, and the advice can be different for each pension and person depending on their situation.

We have in-depth experience in advising clients from the UK and helping them navigate the different pension and savings plans, taxation and the regulations around QROPS.

If you would like advice or have any questions, schedule a call or download our information pack below.
